Introduction
Mairi Clark - Contemporary Artist

As a child, Mairi always enjoyed painting and drawing and wanted to be an artist when she grew up .

Mairi began her career as a painter studying at the Chelsea and Central St. Martins School of Art, London where she gained a B.A. Honours in Fine Art in 1986. She has exhibited extensively throughout Scotland, and the U K.

Mairi now lives and works in the Kingdom of Fife, Scotland. Mairi Clark has worked as a contemporary artist mainly specialising in oils for over 10 years with solo and mixed exhibitions all over England and Scotland, including London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, the Highlands and in many other art galleries throughout the UK.

Her influences are artists such as Turner, Van Gogh and Joan Eardly, while her gestural mark-making suggests an affinity with the Abstract Expressionists methods of working.

Mairi uses mainly oil paint for its rich, deep and subtle qualities . She enjoys scratching into the surface to create textural effects. There is an obvious passion in her energetic application of colliding layers of paint that intimate atmosphere and changing weather conditions.

Mairi’s use of a vibrant unfettered tapestry of colour and light ensures that her abstract landscapes have a real `sense of place` reflecting her love of the Scottish sea and landscape. Her evocative paintings are inspired by the Scottish coastline particularly the East Neuk, where the ever changing interplay between sea, sky and landscape affect colour and mood..

 Artists comment .........
"It is very important to me to capture a free and energetic mood in my work".
